Sattvayana AyurYoga

Life (Ayurveda) is the combination (samyoga) of body, senses, mind and reincarnation soul. Ayurveda is the most sacred science of life, beneficial to humans both in this world and the world beyond.

~ Charaka

The Pure and Wise Vehicle

At Sattvayana AyurYoga the goal of walking on our own unique paths of goodness, purity, and wisdom as we navigate all states of this existence is paramount. The study of both the best life practices for humans in general and for each individual in particular is aptly reflected in the term AyurYoga.* Both Ayurveda and Yoga are based on the Samkhya [Sankhya] philosophical structure, one of the shad (six) darshan (from darsana meaning sight or vision) or six orthodox philosophies of India which are based on the Vedas.

Charaka states in the Charaka Samhita that the rishis petitioned the gods for Ayurveda, a life science that provided health and well-being, so that people could pursue the Purusharthas, Four Goals of Life which culminate in Mosha, Liberation. Ayurveda and Yoga support each other as one united discipline to provide physical and mental health as well as a path to spiritual enlightenment. To practice Yoga as the risihis intended one is also practicing Ayurveda and vice versa.

The spirit of the ancient risihis and Charaka are reflected in the carefully chosen name Sattvayana AyurYoga. I look forward to you joining me on this deep and rich journey.

*To my knowledge, the first use of the term AyruYoga was by Dr. Vasant Lad.
